Why the Title

I began reenacting living history of women and their daily lives over thirty years ago. This included untold trips to the period sutlers (merchants) who set up their wares at events in what is known among re-enactors as "Sutler's Row". In the early years women's roles were not interpreted as they are today. Women were spending a lot of time sitting in military camps not doing very much. In those camps and up and down Sutler's Row I heard one question time and time again. Why don't they have something for the ladies? Out of that one question an idea was born.

"Something for the Ladies" is a small enterprise that I have begun in which I offer interpretations of women at work and play during the 18th & 19th Centuries. This blog is part of the effort to educate and share ideas and thoughts. To all who wish to browse, a hardy and sincere welcome.
